The Pew Internet and American Life Project released today a study of Facebook users that’s making news. Sure, you expected them all to be social misfits too afraid to come out and meet real people face to face. Turns out, Facebook users are very sociable people indeed. Facebook users have slightly more social contacts, have a larger support group, and are more politically engaged than non users.
But here is the important news for those of us promoting commercial Facebook sites: A “Facebook user who uses the site multiple times per day is 43% more likely than other internet users and more than three times as likely as non-internet users to feel that most people can be trusted.”
Facebook users are more trusting. What a powerful marketing tool this can be as long as you don’t do anything that breaks that trust.
